The sixteenth Jonn Scott Flath Memorial Scholarship recipient was announced during the Seniors Award night on May 1st, 2024 at West Ranch High School.
Jonn touched hundreds of lives while he was here with us and we want to continue extending his love for as long as we can. The Jonn Scott Flath Memorial Scholarship fund is a 501c3 fund which will be used for graduation High School seniors to help defray their college/university costs.
With the help of charitable donations, we hope to reach out to students from beyond West Ranch High School.
Until
there is an increase in the Scholarship fund or a guarantee for annual
donations is established, we will be working with West Ranch High
School and their administration senior staff who will make the decision
(no applications are permitted) based upon the selected students
character, morals, GPA, cross cultural diversity outreach, enthusiasm
and overall sincere attitude, characters which Jonn displayed. No more
than 2 students will be awarded a scholarship per year, in order to
maintain guaranteed future memorial scholarship fund awards. Our goal is
to maintain a constant balance of $20,000 or higher per year.
501c3 tax deductible gifts can be sent to the following:

Dear Andrew,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as the 2024 recipient for The Jonn Scott Flath Memorial Scholarship.
The
Jonn Scott Flath Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory
of former West Ranch student Jonn Scott Flath, a 2011 AP Scholar and
Honor Scholar Graduate. Jonn is widely remembered as an inspirational
person who sincerely lived out his integrity, joyousness, perseverance,
and generosity of spirit. His presence was also felt across the school
as a popular host on West Ranch Television, as well as the witty and
creative force behind so many popular WRTV videos and featured segments,
not to mention his team building skills with the Varsity Volleyball
team. This scholarship serves to celebrate those outstanding attributes that were so clearly exemplified by Jonn during his time at West Ranch High School:
Integrity – Jonn
would encourage others through his own deliberate actions, to do what
is right and honorable, especially when faced with peer pressure. Jonn
understood that integrity sometimes requires sacrifice, that doing what
is right may stand in direct contradiction with what is immediately
popular. He was not afraid to
take such a stand, no matter the cost. Jonn’s moral and ethical values
were never in question and are a benchmark for others to achieve.
Joyousness-
Jonn loved life and savored every experience that he shared with his
family and friends, as evidenced by his ever-present smile. Those who spent much time with Jonn found that his smile was contagious.
Perseverance-
Jonn knew that noble aspirations are not easily achieved, but require
hard work and single-mindedness of purpose as demonstrated through the
completion of a variety of AP courses and recognition as an Honor
Scholar at graduation. He understood that worthy objectives are predicated upon sound principals, such as respect, duty, and honor. Values such as these inspired Jonn’s unwavering desire to serve as an officer in the United State Air Force.
Generosity of Spirit-Jonn
possessed the kind of quiet confidence that comes from being
comfortable in your own skin, the kind of confidence that allows you to
build up your neighbor, rather than to tear him down. Through example, he inspired those around him to be better people. He inspires us still.
As
stated by the above attributes, Jonn’s Integrity, Joyousness,
Perseverance, and Generosity of Spirit were something he held dear and
demonstrated on a regular basis. It is a great honor that you were selected as one who exhibits such qualities and will thus carry on his legacy.
This
$2,000 scholarship is to be used exclusively for college related
expenses. You must submit evidence of proof of enrollment to receive
your award.
If you have any questions regarding your award, please contact the Flath Family.
Sincerely,
The Flath Family
